Job summary
The
Communications and Engagement Officer will lead on community engagement,
partnership development and communications activity for the One You Kent
Service across a defined locality (East or West Kent), supporting county-wide
priorities where required.
The
postholder will work at neighbourhood and community level to build strong,
lasting relationships with local partners, raise awareness of the service and
increase appropriate referrals. This includes engagement with a wide range of
stakeholders such as local authorities, primary and secondary care, PCNs,
leisure services, community and voluntary sector organisations and local
residents.
Alongside
face-to-face engagement, the role will take responsibility for delivering
effective digital, marketing and media activity to promote One You Kent,
ensuring consistent, engaging and accessible communications across all
channels.
The role
supports ABLs strengths-based, asset-based approach, focusing on partnership,
co-production and innovation rather than duplication of existing provision.
This is a varied, dynamic role requiring flexibility, organisation and
confidence in working independently and collaboratively. No two days will be
the same.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the delivery of the ABL Community Engagement Strategy across designated service areas, building strong relationships with local partners, GP practices, and Primary Care Networks to increase awareness of One You Kent and strengthen referral pathways. They will represent the service at local forums, events, and community meetings, contribute to co-production activities, and maintain accurate partnership records and databases.
The role will involve managing One You Kents social media platforms and digital communications, creating engaging and accessible content across websites, social media, email campaigns, and marketing materials. The postholder will work closely with ABLs central communications team to support campaigns, maintain digital platforms, and contribute to lead generation and service promotion, while identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
In addition, the postholder will support media and promotional activity by identifying opportunities, drafting press releases and case studies, and contributing to coverage across print, broadcast, and online channels. They will also monitor and report on engagement, referral, and digital performance activity, provide updates against targets, and work flexibly across the service, including supporting events and occasional evening or weekend work where required.

What success looks like
Essential criteria
- Relevant experience working in communications, engagement, community development, public health or a related field.
- Ability to travel independently across Kent as required.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evening or weekend work to support events and engagement activity.
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
- Experience of working within or alongside health, wellbeing, public health or community services.
- Experience of engaging with communities, partners or stakeholders to promote services or initiatives.
- Experience of working in a community or place based setting.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant qualification or training in communications, marketing, public health, community development or similar.
- Experience of working with lifestyle services such as smoking cessation, weight management, physical activity or behaviour change programmes.
- Experience of developing and delivering communications, marketing or engagement campaigns.
