Job Description

82853 - Field Staff Supervisor This Field Staff Supervisor will report to the Operations Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our Croydon & Kingston offices. You will be a permanent employee. You will attract a salary of £68,144 per annum and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote Close Date: 2nd September 2026 We also provide the following additional benefits 23 Days Annual Leave plus bank holidays. Reservist Leave – Additional 18 days full pay and 22 unpaid Personal Pension Plan – Personal contribution rates of 4% or 5% (UK Power Networks will make a corresponding contribution of 8% or 10%) Tenancy Loan Deposit Scheme, Season Ticket Loan Tax efficient benefits: Cycle to Work, Home & Tech, and Green Car Leasing Schemes Occupational Health support Switched On – scheme providing discount on hundreds of retailers' products Discounted gym membership Employee Assistance Programme Job Purpose The Field Staff Supervisor ensures the performance of assigned field teams in the Area. You will partner with other Field Staff Supervisors in the Region, Field Engineers, and Schedulers to ensure the best possible utilisation of resources and the highest levels of on-site productivity. The postholder requires supporting and achieving the goal of Zero Harm in all aspects of their work. Dimensions Staff responsibility: circa 20 craftspersons Financial authority to approve corporate card expense claims following FAL limit Approval of personal expenses and mileage up to £500 Authorisation to sign and approve timesheets Principal Accountabilities Ensure a high standard of safety management through site safety audits and maintaining safety performance within company parameters, promoting Zero Harm and supporting staff welfare. Daily planning, coordination and real-time management of resources for directly employed staff and contractors to maximise productivity and improve unit costs. Work with Field Staff Supervisors, Field Engineers, staff and Schedulers to improve resource utilisation and improve customer experience. Manage substation inspection processes and defect prioritisation to improve quality and consistency. Communicate with Engineers and Supervisors to ensure delivery of work packages forward planning of resources. Ensure timesheets reflect work undertaken. Manage transport fleet, plant and equipment to meet operational requirements. Ensure the return of all work packages observing Information and Incentives Project (IIP) and International Standards Organisation (ISO) requirements. Interpret and respond to management reports supporting resource monitoring and control. Support the Network Operations Area Manager in running the Area and Region, including strategic vision and implementation. Undertake emergency system responsibilities within the local tactical team and play an active role during storm situations. Improve through performance reviews, staff development and new technology. Ensure staff comply with procedures and remove barriers to efficient delivery. Manage all people-related aspects of the team, including performance management. Support delivery of network fault repairs, asset inspections, maintenance and connections work. Help deliver important operational indicators such as Customer Minutes Lost (CMLs) and Customer Interruptions (CIs). Leadership Responsibilities The Field Staff Supervisor will: Ensure jobs are carried out following Electricity Guaranteed Standards (EGS). Collaborate with civil and other contractors to maximise site productivity. Develop a sustainable culture with care for company values and safety standards. Ensure compliance with procedures. Demonstrate visible leadership through regular site visits. Lead by example with safe working practices and behaviours. Monitor employee health and wellbeing. Promote teamwork and monitor performance against agreed standards. Attend all training relevant to the role. Stop work activities where there is a health and safety concern and discuss actions with the Area Manager. Qualifications Experienced resource manager or technical administrator. Experience with electrical distribution. Familiar with organisational procedures and able to implement them locally. Understanding of professional and trade skills required to deliver field work. Have a technical background, such as Fitter, Jointer or Linesperson. ONC qualified or hold a minimum City and Guilds 2339 (formerly 232) in Electrical Power Engineering. Hold or be willing to obtain an IOSH Managing Safely qualification within an agreed timescale (normally within six months of appointment). Work with people at all organisational levels. Understanding of the range of professional and trade skills required for field work. Work collaboratively across Network Operations and other directorates. Grade Note: The core grade for the Field Staff Supervisor role is Band E. Candidates who are operational SAP Engineers, maintain operational authorisations, and participate in standby rotas or regularly use their authorisations may retain their higher legacy grade, Band D. We review this annually. Competencies Build relationships with managers and colleagues across Network Operations and other directorates. Competent in business systems including Ellipse and work management systems. Manage absence, HR issues, recruitment, training and assessment activities. Promote less experienced team members to achieve our goals. Encourage and manage change. Resolve people-related issues and escalate. Understand customer needs. Analyse data and situations objectively to identify causes and impacts. Improve performance. Manage time and resources while setting clear prioritise.
