Job Description

We are recruiting a Business Development Executive for an established business based in North Yorkshire, within commuting distance of Thirsk, Bedale, Richmond and Darlington. This full-time position offers a basic salary of £43,000, uncapped commission and a car allowance, working Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Following successful completion of the probationary period, hybrid working will be available, with three days in the office and two days working from home.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced business development professional who enjoys opening new doors, building trusted relationships and converting opportunities into sustainable revenue.

You will take ownership of the complete new-business sales journey, from identifying prospective customers and creating opportunities through to understanding their requirements, presenting tailored solutions, negotiating terms and securing new accounts.

Supported by an experienced internal team, you will have the autonomy to manage your own sales activity, develop a strong pipeline and contribute directly to the continued growth of the business.

The position will involve a combination of office-based working, home working and external customer meetings. You will therefore need to be comfortable managing your own diary, travelling to meet prospective customers and maintaining momentum across a varied sales pipeline.

What you will be doing

  • Identifying, researching and approaching prospective customers across agreed target markets.
  • Building credible relationships with Engineering, Technical, Procurement and Commercial decision-makers.
  • Developing a strong pipeline through proactive outreach, networking, referrals and market research.
  • Arranging and attending customer meetings to understand operational and commercial requirements.
  • Presenting tailored technical solutions that demonstrate clear value.
  • Managing opportunities from initial contact through to negotiation and close.
  • Maintaining regular and professional communication throughout the sales process.
  • Keeping CRM records, forecasts and pipeline information accurate and up to date.
  • Monitoring market activity and identifying new sectors and emerging opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams to deliver an excellent customer experience.
  • Achieving individual revenue and new-business targets.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience in a successful B2B new-business development role.
  • A proven track record of generating opportunities and winning new customers.
  • Experience selling technical products, services or solutions.
  • Strong prospecting, questioning, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • A consultative sales style and the ability to build credibility with senior decision-makers.
  • Good commercial judgement and an understanding of how to develop profitable business.
  • Confidence managing longer sales cycles and multiple opportunities.
  • Resilience, self-motivation and a proactive approach.
  • Strong organisational and diary-management skills.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage sales activity and pipeline performance.
  • A full UK driving licence.

The successful candidate will ideally have worked within one or more of the following sectors:

  • Electronics or power electronics.
  • Defence.
  • Technical manufacturing.
  • Engineering-led businesses.

An existing network of Engineering, Technical, Procurement or Commercial decision-makers would be particularly valuable. However, this is not essential if you can demonstrate a strong track record of opening new markets and developing relationships from an initial introduction.

What is on offer

  • £43,000 basic salary.
  • Uncapped commission.
  • Car allowance.
  • Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm.
  • Hybrid working following probation, with three days in the office and two days working from home.
  • An established and supportive commercial team.
  • Autonomy to develop new accounts and influence future growth.
  • A long-term opportunity within a stable and successful organisation.

If you are a commercially driven business development professional who can build relationships, create opportunities and convert prospects into profitable customers, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
